RNNoise strips keyboard clatter and room hum, then loudness normalisation brings your voice to a consistent broadcast level. On by default.

Under the hood
14 megabytes. Not an Electron app.
boom is Rust and Tauri. It uses AVFoundation and VideoToolbox for hardware-accelerated capture and encoding, so recording a 4K display doesn’t heat your laptop the way a browser-based recorder does.
The app window hides itself from your own capture. It signs itself with a Developer ID certificate.

- What is boom?
- boom is a native macOS screen recorder that composites your camera, isolates your voice and normalises loudness during the capture itself. The MP4 or MOV in your folder is finished the moment you stop recording, with no separate editing or export step.
- Does boom upload my recordings anywhere?
- No. boom has no server, no account system and no analytics. Capture, compositing and rendering all happen on your machine, and the file is written straight to a folder you choose.
- Can boom record vertical video for Reels and TikTok?
- Yes. Reel view turns the window into a 9:16 camera-only frame showing the exact crop before you record, and the finished vertical MP4 comes out at 1080 × 1920 — ready to post without reframing.
- Is boom available for Windows and Linux?
- Not yet. boom currently ships for macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon. A Windows build and a Linux build are in progress, and the download section has a notify list for both.
- Does boom require FFmpeg?
- Yes, the current beta does. It uses an FFmpeg installation already present on your Mac, so install it with "brew install ffmpeg" before recording. A self-contained build with FFmpeg bundled is planned for the next beta.
- Is boom notarised by Apple?
- Yes. boom is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarised by Apple, and the notarisation ticket is stapled to both the app and the disk image, so it installs without a Gatekeeper warning and verifies even offline.
- What formats and resolutions can boom record?
- boom exports MP4 (H.264) and MOV at 720p, 1080p or 2K, in 16:9, 9:16 vertical or 1:1 square. It can capture a whole display, a single window, or a region you drag out by hand.
- How large is boom?
- The download is about 7.5 MB and the installed app is about 14 MB. boom is written in Rust with Tauri rather than Electron, which is why it is a fraction of the size of comparable recorders.
- How much does boom cost?
- boom is free to download during the beta. It has no account requirement and adds no watermark to recordings.
